If you run below command on Red Hat / Centos machine, you will get list of all available updates for system where this command is executed on.
# yum check-update
Interesting plugin which adds additional functionality to yum is yum-security .
In yum-security own description notes:
Description: This plugin adds the options –security, –cve, –bz and –advisory flags
: to yum and the list-security and info-security commands.
: The options make it possible to limit list/upgrade of packages to specific
: security relevant ones. The commands give you the security information.
After installation of yum-security package
# yum install yum-security
you can run
# yum –security check-update
to check security patches available.Nice, isn’t it 😉
